This May Be It
Yesterday someone suggested putting the dark squares on point and using the background fabric for the triangles in the harlequin pattern. I think this may be the one or at least it's the one that I like best so far! Again, a case of "less is more". It still needs something (maybe a colored border on each side of the pieced border?), but I'm definitely getting closer to the look that I want.

I like this one best, with your idea of a darker border on either side. there is a lot of background otherwise. Of course if you leave them like this, they "float".
Yes, this works nicely.
Yes, I like this one best too.
Yes! I like this a lot!
Love this...
That one does look best. I have to lay them out and look at them for a few days before I can tell. Maybe keep it simple is the best.
I have pieced a border like this, only there were different colors on each side of the squares. Clear as mud? You can check out the pictures here:

Maybe that would give you the color that you are looking for!

Yup, like that one the best too. I also like your idea of a colored border on each side, maybe just a thin pop of color.
I think you are getting close Susan. I like your idea of a narrow plain border to the side of this one.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssss that loooks great!!
This is the one ,I really like this
one the best .
This one is nice!
I love that you're showing us all the borders that you are auditioning. As a newer quilter, I'm learning a lot from this process. Thank you!
YES!!
This is nice ... as I thought it might be!

I like it a lot!! Thanks for posting all the auditions, it was really fun to see them and figure out what was working (or not) and why.
Just about there but I can tell you want it to have just a little more tweaking. It's working for me too.
