Zombies And Knitting Do Not Mix!

I have made so many of these basic baby hats that I've said that I can knit them in my sleep.  While that may or may not be true, I found out Sunday night that I can't knit these little hats and watch The Walking Dead at the same time.  I was just a few rows short of finishing when I realized that I had made a mistake in the decreases.  Dang!  I ripped out all that I had done and will finish up while watching a less exciting TV show.  Zombies and knitting do not mix!

Winter Is Most Certainly Best Spent At Home Stitching!

The last few weeks we have been experiencing some brutal winter weather here in northern Pennsylvania, so I've been holed up in my sewing room quilting some quilts that my guild's charity group put together.  Look at those fabrics...the perfect cure for winter blues!  Just like the wall hanging in the background says...Winter is most certainly best spent at home stitching!

Mystery Solved!

The Odds, Ends and Leftovers mystery has been solved!  There was an optional round to make the quilt larger, but I decided to stop at 57" x 57" so that I can quilt it myself.  (I can only quilt up to 60" with my machine and frame.)  For those of you who weren't able to join in the mystery, it's not too late! Gyleen now has the pdf pattern available for sale at www.colourfulstitches.com.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Snow, wind, below zero "high" temperatures...it must be Valentine's Day weekend in northern Pennsylvania!  It seems like we always get a big Valentine's Day storm and this year is no exception.  I guess I'll be spending this Valentine's doing what I love to do most...stitching by the fire!

Sockies

From the looks of the long range weather forecast, we still have plenty of very cold temperatures to get through in northern Pennsylvania before spring settles in for good.  I guess that means that there's still lots of time to knit and wear wool sockies, especially when the pattern uses big needles and bulky wool yarn!  Find the free pattern HERE.

One Step Closer

I'm one step closer to solving Gyleen Fitzgerald's Odds, Ends and Leftovers mystery quilt!  The last step will be posted this morning, so hopefully I'll have a finished top very soon!

Another Runner

The members of my family loved the table topper and runner that I made from my dad's shirts for my mom so much that everyone wanted one of their own!  Thankfully I have a lot of fabric from those 24 shirts, so I should be able to make something for everyone.  First on the list is this runner for my sister...it is made with one charm from each shirt.

Dyed And Died

My #1 daughter-in-law has found that she loves wool felt applique, so we have been searching the thrift stores for wool skirts to recycle into penny rugs and candle mats.  I was telling her how easy it is to dye wool with koolaid, so we planned an evening to dye with all the grandgirls while the men folk watched football.  There were six of us dyeing felt pieces and heat setting them in the microwave.  Mixing and blending, we wanted to make all the colors we could imagine! The only thing we didn't take into consideration was giving the microwave a chance to cool off in-between batches.  Yep, you guessed it...the microwave overheated and died!  Unfortunately, the frugal hand dyed wool turned out to be darned expensive once the cost of a new microwave was figured in, but she still ended up with some very pretty wool felt!

Step 3 of Gyleen Fitzgerald's Odds, Ends and Leftover's mystery quilt is finished.  Oh yes, this is going to be one SCRAPPY quilt!
