Fun With Shaving Cream

Yesterday I spent the day with a few of my dye hard friends experimenting with some different dyeing techniques. Oh yes, this dyeing thing is fast becoming a new addiction! For these two fabrics, I put the dye on the first piece, then covered it with shaving cream and smeared it around, after that I put another piece of fabric over the shaving cream and pressed it down to make a print of the first fabric. I love the results! These fabrics make me wish that I liked to applique...wouldn't they make wonderful fall leaves?

Where could I get more information on what technique you used? Do you think it would work on wool?

I don't have a utility sink and need to dye some wool to a mottled terra cotta. I have no idea where to start, I don't want to cook it on the stove either, lol.

If you don't applique, then what about making pumpkins from them? I think they are gorgeous too. I didn't know that technique.

I just love bright colors and these two pieces would work beautifully in a landscape quilt. This is a technique I've got to try. Thanks for the inspiration.

Looks amazing Susan, I used to love doing that sort of thing when at Teachers College. You get such amazing results.
