Why Are We So Hard On Ourselves?

Ok, maybe I was being too hard on myself in regards to the quilting on this quilt.  Now that it is off the frame, trimmed, and bound it really isn't that bad (especially if you stand back a few feet and squint)!  Seriously though, after I showed it to a few quilty friends (who will be brutally honest when need be) everyone agreed that the imperfections weren't bad enough to scrap the whole quilt and a couple non-quilty friends couldn't even spot anything wrong!  Why are we so hard on ourselves???

It's sometimes so hard to not have our eye go to the imperfections we know are there. Easier said than done to be kind to ourselves.

I agree. It always looks better when the quilt isn't 6" from the eyes.

perhaps because in quilting there is always something to learn and in learning there has to be some critiquing so sometimes we get stuck in that mode.
your quilt is lovely and done makes it even better (in my book)

I still think it is lovely! Nothing is ever perfect! One reason I love the antique and vintage quilts...they did not go for perfect just done well!

I like the design of this quilt. And all the wonderful scrapiness.

We are always our own worst critics. I hopped over to your blog because of the photo of this striking quilt. It's scrappy fun and though a simple design, it's dramatic.
This is a lovely finished project, and done is done. That raises its beauty in any quilter's eyes.

I know what you mean. It's the getting there and seeing it with a fresher self-perspective that makes the difference.

Blame it on the quilt police - understanding that there is absolutely a place for excellence and precision but the overwhelming and burdensome pressure for "perfection" can get on anyone's nerves and keep us from seeing the real "beauty" in the work of our hands.

It looks great!!!! You are so right, we are definitely hard on ourselves. I have one right now that I want to throw away but I keep saying...once it is done it will be okay... Great job!

If you can't see it from a galloping horse, it's okay!
