Black?
I spotted black food coloring at the grocery store and I couldn't resist buying a bottle for a yarn dyeing experiment. I mixed three strengths of dye by adding 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon to a 1/2 cup of water each and then poured them over three different sections of the yarn. I was expecting the yarn to be shades of charcoal grey, but as you can see by the photo the color is more brown than black. I can't say that I'm disappointed with the results though...the different shades of chocolate brown are absolutely beautiful!

One thing I've learned in my very limited yarn dyeing experience is that sometimes colors break down and can result in the unexpected. I agree with you, this brown is GORGEOUS! I don't think your results could have been any better.
Love the color!! What yarn are you dyeing?
Now that is my "cup of tea". What are you going to make with it?
I'm fascinated with your dying yarn. I'd love to be a knitter, but there just isn't enough time to do everything.
Keep up the inspiration, though!
It looks like a lot of fun experimenting and I do like the chocolate too.
