Here She Is!

I've never been one to name my machines, but several people have asked what I have named my "new" machine and insisted that she is deserving of a name.  I guess I can't deny such a beauty a name, so in honor of Mr. Miller, who gifted her to me, I would like you to meet Millie.  She's all cleaned up and ready to sew!  Yes this old gal shows a some wear and tear, but her ticker still ticks the way it should and her seams are just as straight as can be!

Who Doesn't Love A Good Mystery?

I started doing a bit of research on my "new" machine and have found myself in the middle of a mystery.  I began with some of the different serial number lists found across the web, but each showed a different date and model number for the serial number on my machine.  I then decided that I would email Singer direct for a date verification.  They sent a fast reply stating that their records showed that serial #G9990077 belongs to Singer Model 15 manufactured on May 1, 1923 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  Sounds good, but this machine is definitely not a Model 15.  I sent them photos of my machine and the serial number and they replied that there was obviously an error in their records and there's no real way to know exactly when my machine was made, only that the Singer Model 128 was manufactured from 1917 to 1959.  Maybe the date of 1923 is right and just the model number is incorrect?  Maybe it's all wrong?  It's certainly a mystery!

My "New" Machine

My husband's friend (the one who is moving to a smaller home) stopped by with another box for me last week.  This box was quite a bit heavier than the box of ties that he brought earlier in the month.  This box contained a Singer Model 128 made in 19??!  It has spent the last I don't know how many years stored in a barn, so it's musty smelling and filthy dirty, but otherwise it appears to be in working condition!  Now to do a little research to figure out the best way to go about cleaning and restoring my "new" machine.
