Wavy Zip Bag

I turned my wavy weaving piece into a little wavy zip bag.  I added a beaded zipper pull just to make it a little more fun.  I love how it turned out!

A quilty friend of mine spends winters in Florida and summers here in Pennsylvania.  She most always comes home with some new fabric trick that she learned over the winter from her quilty friends in Florida.  The photo shows what she shared with me recently...wavy weaving! (It's a technique by Trish Hodge.) How fun is this piece?  I think it's going to end up as a little zip bag!

While The Internet Was Out

I may not have been posting, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been quilting.  I was recently asked to make this quilt for a military couple that will be getting married this month, so I have been busy sewing to make sure it was finished in time for the wedding.  (Maybe it's a good thing that the internet wasn't working right!)  The quilt finished at 60x77, so it's a nice throw size that will be perfect for the sofa or 4th of July picnics.  The pattern is Star Bright Quilt and is available for free from Swim Bike Quilt.

I'm Still Here...

Even though blog posts have been few and far between lately...I'm still here!  I'm busy working on a special quilt for a special someone.  I'll be able to give the details soon!

RV Decor

I had a few scraps leftover from the airplane quilt that I made as a Christmas gift...just enough to make a table runner and a couple of hot pads to match the RV decor!

Dreaming Of Flying

I made this quilt as a gift for the airplane enthusiast in the family.  Most of the airplane quilt patterns that I found were for kids and not grown men, so I used a disappearing nine patch in colors to match his RV and paper pieced an airplane for the back. I loved how it turned out and almost hated to give it away!

Plus Flowers

I think I may like this "flowery" version of the plus quilt even more than the "manly" version that I made a couple of weeks ago.  Doesn't it look like pink flowers sprinkled across the green background? I backed this one with a pretty rose print flannel that I had in my stash, so it will be cozy and warm too!

One More Plus

I had so much fun putting together the plus quilt for my father-in-law that I thought I would try one that is a little more girly.  I'm using a rose print flannel that I have in my stash as my inspiration...pink flowers and green leaves,  If all turns out the way I hope it will, I'll use the rose print flannel for the backing.

Warm And Cozy

Here's the scrap quilt that I have been working on for my father-in-law all quilted and bound.  The flannel back really makes it a warm cozy quilt and from the sounds of the long range forecast, a warm cozy quilt is going to come in handy this winter!  

Reject

This was actually my first attempt for my Colors of Cancer quilt, but I got a little carried away with my design and it turned out to be too big for the challenge.  I liked it too much to scrap it, so I went ahead and finished it anyway.  I'm happy things turned out they way they did, because this little quilt now adds a bright spot in my sewing room.

From Scraps To Quilt Top

My father-in-law's scraps are now a top!  It turned out to be a small throw size, about 40x50...just the right size for using while lounging in the lazy-boy! Now to get it on the frame and quilted.

Free Motion Fun!

Our two oldest granddaughters, spent a couple of very wet rainy days with us this weekend.  While listing off some inside activities, I asked if they would like to try some free motion quilting.  I was answered by two resounding yeses!  I loaded the frame with white muslin and put some variegated thread in the machine and turned them loose!  I think they are FM naturals or maybe it's just that kids have no fear and will try just about anything?   Either way, they have definitely inspired me to try something different from my usual meander or loops and swirls!

What Do I Do With It Now?

I was playing around with some 2 1/2" batik squares and came up with a fun design.  I'm not sure if it looks like a sun, flower, or some sort of explosion, but I like it.  Now to figure out how to quilt it...

Borderless!

Last Friday I asked if this little quilt needed borders or not and it was almost a 50-50 split between adding borders or going borderless.  In the end I decided to go with my gut, which was telling me that this quilt didn't really need borders.  I quilted it with a tiny meander and added a solid white binding which is just enough to stop the action and frame the quilt.  I love how it turned out and what's even better is that I used all most of my 30's reproduction fabric scraps! (Just how small is too small of a fabric scrap to keep or use?)

Merry Mother's Day?

It's an odd time of year for me to be working with holiday fabrics.  I usually save winter fabrics for projects between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but shortly after Christmas my mom mentioned that she needed a new holiday table runner, so rather than trying to stitch one during the Christmas rush, I thought I would make one for her for Mother's Day!  This way she will have it in plenty of time to enjoy it when next Christmas rolls around!

Quilting With Office Products

I do love my Gracie quilt frame, but I still like to use my domestic machine and a walking foot for straight-line quilting on smaller projects.  I was recently quilting a narrow grid and was having a hard time stuffing and shifting the quit through the machine and keeping my stitching straight, so I rolled the quilt and pinned the excess into place with a couple of straight pins.  Ouch!  Not a good idea.  Then I remembered the big binder clips that I had in my desk...they held the quilt in place perfectly and worked like a charm!

The Challenge Continues

The leftover half-square triangles and stack of 30's reproduction scraps have now been turned into pinwheels, 4-patches, and charm squares with just a few small bits leftover.  Stay tuned...

Meandering Along

I used to feel guilty for not doing a lot of fancy quilting on my quilts, but not anymore.  To be honest, I don't particularly enjoy the quilting process. I would much rather just piece tops and stitch bindings, but if I only piece tops, I end up with a mountain of unfinished quilts and I don't get a chance to do many bindings. Most of my quilts are made to be used and aren't show pieces, so I've given myself permission to meander when I can!  I'm pretty sure that one day I'll be remembered as the lady who meandered all of her quilts, but at least they are all going to be finished quilts and that's what is important, right? 

Spring?

My Anita's Arrowhead quilt is quilted, bound and finished just as our snow is starting to melt!  This quilt really speaks to me...it says SPRING!
