RV Decor

I had a few scraps leftover from the airplane quilt that I made as a Christmas gift...just enough to make a table runner and a couple of hot pads to match the RV decor!

Odds, Ends And Leftovers - Step 2

Here is step 2 of Gyleen Fitzgerald's latest mystery quilt all finished.  I know that this quilt is going to drive my #1 daughter-in-law crazy...she likes everything to match, so I'm sure that all of these mismatched scraps are making her cringe!  However, I think I like the scrappiness!  All of these fabrics have come from past quilts and projects, so this quilt will hold lots of memories once it's finished...even if it does end up looking like the dog's breakfast!

Another Fleece Blanket

It's still cold.  Freezing below zero cold, so I'm still working on fleece blankets!  Most of the blankets that I am making will go to our local foster care program.

Odds, Ends And Leftovers

Gyleen Fitzgerald is doing another online mystery quilt and I thought I would join in.  Gyleen is offering this mystery for free on Facebook and all you have to do to stitch along is join the Facebook group, Gyleen's Bricks, Cobblestones and Pebbles.  The quilt will be made with all scraps and stash and is perfect for anyone who has a lot of 2 1/2" squares and strips all ready cut.  The photo shows my completed first step.  I can't wait to get the next piece of the puzzle!

Fleece Blanket Weather

It's January in Northern Pennsylvania.  It is cold.  Really cold!  So cold that all I want to do is sit by the fire and crochet edgings on fleece blankets!

Dreaming Of Flying

I made this quilt as a gift for the airplane enthusiast in the family.  Most of the airplane quilt patterns that I found were for kids and not grown men, so I used a disappearing nine patch in colors to match his RV and paper pieced an airplane for the back. I loved how it turned out and almost hated to give it away!

Special Table Toppers

After my dad passed away I saved his cotton shirts with the intention of making quilts for everyone in the family with them.  It took me 7 years to get the strength to cut into those shirts, but I have to say the process has been a good one.  Rather than a quilt, I decided on a table topper for my mom.  My dad spent a great deal of time sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper and drinking coffee, so a table topper seemed quite appropriate.  The only trouble was with my math...I made the topper 36" square, but I should have made it 36" from corner to corner so that it could be centered on the table without draping over the edge.  I realized my mistake after it was finished, so I made another runner the same size as the one that my mom had been using.  I gave her both for Christmas and now she has the option to use either as she wishes.

Working On My PhD

I've decided that my goal for 2015 is going to be to finish my PhD (Project half Done).  Actually when I began blogging back in 2008, it was because of this quilt.  A group of friends and I decided that we were all going to make Dear Jane quilts and blog about the process.  It didn't take me too long to realize that I had taken on more than what I could handle.  I do not care for tiny pieces or applique and that is what makes up a Dear Jane quilt.  I ended up making the easier pieced blocks and decided on a throw size quilt instead.  My second mistake was deciding to hand quilt it rather than just getting it done on the machine.  As much as I enjoy hand sewing bindings (my favorite part of making a quilt) I am not a hand quilter.  Just the same, I am determined to finish the quilting and get this quilt done in 2015!

Out With The Old!

Last year I made a resolution to finish all of my UFO's.  I should have counted and kept records of them all, but I didn't.  I do know though, that this one was at the bottom of the pile and now it's finished!  That's right, I no longer have any more UFO's!  Of course that doesn't mean that I don't have any PIG's (Projects In Grocery sacks) hiding the the sewing room closet!

Normal

I know that normal is really just a setting on the dryer, but after the last few months, I'm ready for any kind of normal that I can get!  Unfortunately, the tonsillectomy that I had in October did not take care of the problem that I have been having with my throat.  The Reader's Digest condensed version is my persistent sore throat is being caused by a nerve and just before the holidays I was diagnosed with glossopharyngeal neuralgia.  I have more testing ahead, but for now I'm looking into some holistic ways to manage the pain.  The one thing that I have found that helps the most is staying so busy that I don't have time to think about it, so for now I am going to dial the knob to normal and see what happens!
