What Happened To September?
I looked at the calendar this morning and thought to myself that September is almost over and then it occurred to me that I didn't have my September blocks made for the Scrappy Star Sew Along yet! I dropped everything and ran for the sewing machine! Whew...I now have two scrappy stars finished for September! Maybe I should leave the mess and get October's blocks made up a couple of days early!

Lucky For Me
Last month Needled Mom held a giveaway as part of the Blog Hop Party with Giveaways. Of course I put my name in for the draw, but another winner was chosen. Lucky for me, the winner never claimed her prize* and Mary drew my name as the alternate winner! The book, Jelly Roll Quilts, arrived in the mail yesterday. It is full of wonderful quilt patterns that all use 2 1/2" strips! Another good reason to start cutting my scraps a la Bonnie Hunter.

Fleece Time!
Fall has definitely arrived in my part of the country, so that means it's time to break out the projects that are too big and warm to work with during the summer months, such as this cozy fleece throw that I am making for a friend...it's the perfect project for a chilly evening!

Just In Case...
I like to have handmade gifts on hand for baby showers and such that I may not get a lot of advance notice for, so here's another "just in case I need a quick baby gift" all finished!
I used the free pattern Quick Baby Hat & Socks from Double Ewe Yarn Shop. My pattern for the crocheted edging on the fleece blanket can be found HERE.

Pink Reminders
I have a friend who loves pink, so for her birthday I made her a little pink quilt, just like this one, and then promised to make another to donate to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative in her honor.
Pink Reminders is made of 30 1" assorted pink scraps all of which are reminders of other pink quilts that I have made in the past and together they remind me of my friend who loves the color pink so much!

Old Dog...New Tricks!
Who says that you can't teach and old dog new tricks? I've tried several different ways of needle turn applique in the past without a whole lot of success. After a few sorry attempts I decided that needle turn was not for me, but last Friday I decided to give it another try with a very good teacher standing over my shoulder. Using the techniques found in the book The New Applique Sampler by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins and a lot of coaching from my teacher, I was able to complete this appliqued heart without uttering a single swear word! I guess you really can teach an old dog new tricks, either that or I learned this trick just in time before I officially become an old dog in a few short weeks!
