How Many Is Too Many?

As you know, I've been quilting my way through a mountain of quilt tops lately, but now I find myself with an even bigger mountain of finished quilts!  Now I'm wondering how many quilts does a quilter need?  I like to have a few on hand for quick gifts and I do give a lot of my quilts to charity, but there are some that I don't want to give away.  With all of these finished quilts am I going to end up on a special quilter's edition of Hoarders?  What do you do with your finished quilts?

    Great question! I wonder the same thing. I love making them but I am running out of room....My kids love them so I know they won't end up at the thrift store but still...

    I have a lot of quilts, too, even with giving a lot away. I do use them... on tables, hanging, beds, etc. And I rotate them every so often. Some do stay folded in my cabinet, though.

    Let's see - there are quilts on the back of chairs, always at least one quilt on the back of the couch, quilts on many walls, quilts folded in the former china cabinet (now without doors), quilts used to cover table tops, quilts on the bed (and folded at the foot of the bed), and quilts waiting for binding or photos hanging over the balcony . . . the array of colors and patterns is everywhere at our house (and I've donated and gifted plenty more).

    I have 2 cedar chests, both currently full. So future quilts will go on the quilt rack or guest bed. However, I hang up, display, and rotate mine frequently. Visitors always appreciate the variety too.

    I hang quilts all over the place, I always have at least one on each bed, I change out for holidays and seasons. I use smaller ones for table toppers, or art. Bigger ones cover tables nicely too. I have a bunch of scrap quilts I use to cover my couches to protect them as I have 3 dogs. (The quilts come off when company comes.)

    I have so many that it's getting embarrassing (if that's possible)I'll be right there on that special Hoarder's edition with you.
    I like how none of the comments said anything about cutting back on making them -gasp! like that's even an option or possible.

    Someday, when I finish the tops that are glaring at me, I am going to have this problem too. I really would like to have at least three quilts for each bed so that I can rotate them so they don't get as much wear. I do make baby quilts, well it used to be for nieces and nephews and now it for great nieces and nephews and maybe one day for grandbabies. I like to decorate around the house with small quilts. Right now the danger is being on a Hoarder show because of all the fabric I have. It will be an accomplishment if I am on a Hoarder show for completed quilts.

    I keep them in case I teach the class again....good excuse right? I do give some away, but have others displayed around the house and on beds. If you want to keep them DO IT!
