There Has To Be A Better Way!

There has to be a better way to store fabric! I keep mine in plastic totes stacked in the closet and normally that system works pretty well and the fabric stays organized, until the tote is dropped on the floor! It took me a good hour of precious stitching time to refold and organize this fabric after I dropped it on the floor yesterday. No, I didn't go to the extremes that Anya did a few weeks ago (see her post about fabric folding HERE), but my scrap box looks much better now (even better than it did before I dumped it), but there still has to be a better way to store fabric!

  1. I agree. I really don't have any great ideas on keeping my fabrics organized. Is one to do it be color, by design, by fabric lines or just what?????

  2. Hi Susan,

There is a better way! Hang your fabric on hangers just like clothing in your closet. This way you can organize your fabric by color, style, season, whatever!

Scraps can be organized on an over-the-door shoe pocket organizer. This way you can see the scrap colors without having to paw through boxes or drawers.

    Hope that helps!

  5. If there is a better way of organizing fabric, I'd like to know. Some of my fabric is arranged by future projects I have in mind, some by color schemes, and then others just by date of purchase. I definitely need a new system. And a new sewing room....and a new sewing machine...but that's another story!

  6. The fabric that's not in a cupboard is in plastic drawers which I can pull out, I can't think of anything other than that as I don't have any more space. It's even started to creep into spare dresser drawers.
