Somehow my design wall has become a space for me to display unfinished quilts rather than a place to design quilts. A couple of weeks ago, when I was cleaning my sewing room, I decided to take everything off the design wall and complete the pieces that were on it. This pink and brown selvage wall hanging (circa 2010) is the first to be finished!

I never turn down a invitation to go on a shopping trip (especially a shopping trip that involves quilt shops) so when I was invited to go along on a little road trip last week I happily agreed to ride along, even though I didn't need anything. I fully intended to only buy lunch on this trip and I'm honestly not sure how it happened, but I came home with a bag FULL of goodies.

All Day Long

The more I learn about Alzheimer's, the more I learn that very little about the disease makes sense. The other day I was chatting with my mother-in-law in her room at the nursing home when a nurse stopped in to ask her if she needed anything...her reply was, "All day long." We weren't quite sure what she meant by her reply and it honestly didn't make much sense, much like most of her answers to questions these days, but it was good inspiration for this little Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt.

This Is Why...

This is why I don't pin baste! Yes, that is a safety pin and next to it is my sewing machine needle broken into three pieces! I was sewing a binding on a charity quilt and didn't see that a pin had crept into the path of the needle. All of a sudden there was a thud and everything stopped...no error display, no power, no nothing! Thankfully, I found all of the broken needle pieces and none were lodged inside the machine. I replaced the needle and turned on the power switch. Nothing. I flipped the switch again. Nothing. Unplugged the machine and plugged it back in. Still nothing. I could have cried! Then after a few more stressful moments, it occurred to me to check the reset button on the surge protector. That was it...the lights all came on and all was good! Whew!

Blocks For Charity

My quilt guild is collecting 9 1/2" (unfinished) 9-Patch blocks to be put into quilts on Project Linus Make A Blanket Day. Is there a better way to get out of a quilting funk than to find some fun fabrics and make a few blocks for charity? I don't think so!

I'm not sure if it is due to not feeling well for the past few weeks, after holiday letdown or a combination of both of those things, but I feel like my train has derailed and I just can't seem to get back on track! Maybe I just need to retreat to my sewing room for a few days and see if that helps. What do you do when your train derails?

This year I took the time to hand knit a little something for members of my family for Christmas. What fun it was to watch everyone open their gifts, but the real reward came when my niece tried on the fingerless gloves that I made for her and then sweetly ask if there was anyway that I could make her a hat to match. Seriously? A 20 year-old college student really wants her aunt to knit her a hat? How could I say no?

Vintage Meets Modern

My youngest son was a HUGE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fan when he was a little boy. He loved the movies and cartoon series and had all the toys that went along with them. His bedroom was even decorated in a TMNT theme, complete with comforter, sheets and matching curtains! Not long ago, I came across an old sheet at a local thrift shop in the same pattern that once covered his bed and thought it would be fun to use it as a backing for a quilt for my son. I used the Disappearing 9-Patch pattern with basic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle solid colors for the top and combined with the sheet (dated 1988!) it makes a very nice vintage meets modern quilt!

Meet Henry

Meet Henry! I don't make a lot of stuffed animals, but when I came across this Softie Scotty Dog pattern I knew that I had to make one for my daughter-in-law. Henry made with upcycled wool from a thrift shop skirt and hand stitched, so he's a little "ruff" around the edges, but I know he's going to be loved!

Pint Size Snuggie

It seems that the lil' cowboy loves his daddy's snuggie, but he gets frustrated with all the extra fabric due to its extra large size. I am not a tailor, but I figured that even I could make a blanket with sleeves. A quick Google search provided several tutorials for snuggies in all different sizes, with all of them claiming that a snuggie could be made in less than an hour. I used this pattern as a starting point. It is a great child's snuggie pattern, but I still had to scale the measurements down for it to fit a three year old. Time total to adjust the pattern, cut the fabric and sew the whole thing together? Less than one hour! Hopefully this little snuggie will keep the lil' cowboy warm without frustration.

Remember the challenge to use these fabrics in a little art quilt that I accepted back at the end of October? (If not, you can read about it HERE.) Even then I was questioning what kind of trouble I had gotten myself into, but honestly I really didn't think this this little quilt would bring as much trouble as it did. The real challenge for me wasn't the fabric selection, but it was all about the inspiration that just wouldn't come...until a skunk looking for a home for the winter found its way into our basement. To make a long story short, for two very long weeks in November my house smelled very much of skunk and flower garden air fresheners. Once my sense of humor returned, my quilty friend, Nancy, suggested that I commemorate the event with an art quilt. Yes, the fabrics seemed to work with the theme, but how should I go about making a skunk
art quilt? It was then that the old Pepe Le Pew cartoons came to mind...remember the waves of green stink that followed him everywhere he went? That became my inspiration along with the floral scent that I used to try and cover up the skunky odor. Now to decide on a name... should it be, "OMG What's That Smell?" or "No Amount Of Air Freshener Is Ever Going To Cover Up This Stink!"?

Crystal Blue Persuasion

Even though I was having a hard time finding inspiration for my December Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt, I managed to come up with a little quilt of which I am quite proud. Not only is this quilt made of fabrics that I dyed myself, but I'm pleased with the overall design and I think the addition of the glass seed beads finish this quilt off nicely. The thing that makes me the proudest of this quilt really doesn't have anything to do with the design or workmanship, but has everything to do with the fact that it completes my New Year's Resolution for 2011! This is the first time I've ever kept a New Year's Resolution...ever! Over the past year I have made 12 quilts and raised $519.95 for the AAQI and it was a whole lot more fun and easier to do than losing 20 pounds or exercising every day! I believe that I'll be making the same resolution again for 2012.

Spritz Cookies

Spritz cookies are a must at our house for Christmas...mainly because they are my favorite Christmas cookie!

Spritz Cookies

1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened (no substitutes)
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sift together the flour and salt; set aside. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Stir in the egg yolk, almond extract and vanilla extract. Gradually blend in the sifted ingredients. Fill a cookie press with dough and shoot cookies about 1 1/2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. If you like, decorate with sugar or sprinkles at this time. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cookies just start to turn golden around the edges.

The sales have all been totaled and it's official, the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative sold 1,141 Priority: Alzheimer’s Quilts during International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX, raising $62,000 for Alzheimer's research during the four and a half day quilt show. Yes, that was one thousand one hundred forty-one little quilts that sold for a total of sixty-two THOUSAND dollars...record sales for the AAQI at the Houston show! Those are some totally awesome totals!

Progress

Maybe the stress of a looming deadline can spark a little creativity. Once I took the plunge and made that first cut, the pieces started going together and surprisingly what I have done, so far, doesn't look too bad! Time And Creativity

If not for deadlines I would rarely finish anything, so I fully understand the need for time limits. However, I do question how it is possible to be creative with time constraints. Normally (for me) inspiration comes first and then I begin work, but what happens when there's a date circled on the calendar and inspiration doesn't come? Panic sets in and fabric starts flying regardless of an idea or plan! Now the question is...can art really come out of panic and lack of a plan?

Our youngest granddaughter is turning 3 years old this weekend. (Yes, it has really been three years!) She has asked for an "American Girl" doll just like the ones that her older sisters have. It will be nice for her to have her own doll so that she can play along with her sisters, but I thought it would be nice for her to have something for her doll that her sisters don't have...a sleeping bag! I used a tutorial from Peas in a Pod along with some of my vintage sheet collection and had the whole project done in no time at all! I love how it turned out and there's no doubt in my mind that I will end up making three more for the other dolls in the family!

Chocolate Cupcakes

At first my 4 year old granddaughter declared that these cupcakes were "too pretty to eat", but she quickly changed her mind after "one little taste"!

Chocolate Cupcakes

1 2/3 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon white vinegar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a muffin pan with 12 paper or foil liners. In a small bowl combine flour, brown sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Add water, oil, vinegar and vanilla; beat until smooth. Fill the muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Frost with chocolate frosting when cool.

Chocolate Frosting

3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1-2 tablespoons milk

Cream butter, cocoa, corn syrup and vanilla in a small mixer bowl. Add confectioners' sugar and milk; beat to spreading consistency.

Thanksgiving is by far my most favorite holiday of the year. A day to celebrate all of the blessings that we have and the people that we love. With a son in the military, it's a rare occasion to have the whole family together, so this year I am thankful to have all of our children and grandchildren here at home with us!

Fingerless Gloves

Don't you hate it when grocery stores keep the shopping carts outside during cold weather? The handles are always so cold that you can hardly hold on to them with bare hands and it's nearly impossible to shop with mittens on, so what's a girl to do? Make fingerless gloves! I found a great free pattern at A Friend To Knit With. They are very easy to knit and work up fast with worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles. I may make a pair to match each of my winter coats and an extra pair just to keep in the car too!

Doughnut Muffins

These muffins were so good that they honestly disappeared before I could take a photo! I think I will double the recipe the next time I make them!

Doughnut Muffins

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup flour

Topping

1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 6 muffin cups or line cups with paper muffin liners. In a large bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup butter and nutmeg. Stir in the milk, then mix in the baking powder and flour until just combined. Fill the prepared muffin cups about half full. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes. While muffins are baking, combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Remove muffins from oven and muffin pan. Immediately, dip the tops of the muffins into the melted butter, then into the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Repeat with each muffin, until all muffin tops are covered. Serve warm.

Vintage Jelly Roll

I decided to make my Jelly Roll quilt a little different from the others by using 2 1/2" strips cut from my vintage sheet collection. I love how the different floral prints blend together and give it a watercolor effect! The pattern doesn't call for borders, but I thought that the top needed a little splash of color so I added a narrow pink border and then finished it off with a wider floral border. Now to get it put on the frame and do a little quilting...

How Fast?

This past weekend a few of my quilty friends and I decided to find out just how fast we could piece a 48" x 64" quilt top by holding a Jelly Roll Race. If you aren't familiar with the Jelly Roll Race Quilt Pattern visit Heirloom Creations for a full explanation, pattern and video. In a little over an hour we all had competed quilt tops in a wide variety of colors. If you're looking for a fast and fun quilt this is a great pattern and it's even more fun to make if you're racing against a group of your friends!

Quilts And Airplanes

One wouldn't normally think of quilts and airplanes as being paired together, but the display that I recently saw at the Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, New York was really something to behold! The museum always has a wonderful assortment of early aircraft and a variety of local historical items on display, but combine that with dozens of beautiful quilts all made by local quilters and the museum comes to life! The exhibit will be on display through Sunday, November 6 and it is well worth seeing if you happen to be in the area.

White Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

These cookies may very well be my new all time favorite...yum!

White Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies

1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 package white chocolate chips

In a large bowl, mix shortening brown sugar, egg and molasses until creamy. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves until mixture is well blended. Stir in white chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.

It's funny how one thing leads to another and then all of a sudden you find yourself in the middle of something that maybe you wish you hadn't gotten into! A few of my quilty friends and I were talking recently about stretching our quilting creativity and before any of us fully realized what we were getting ourselves into we had come up with a challenge...we would draw names out of a hat and then select a few fabrics outside of that quilters' comfort zone for them to make an art quilt with. As you can see, the quilty friend who had my name took it easy on me, so I don't think I'll have much of a problem coming up with an art quilt using these fabrics. A Bit Of Applique

I was recently asked to make a teapot block for a quilt that a friend is working on and of course I was happy to oblige! I went in search of patterns online and found several paper pieced block patterns, but none in the required size which meant only one thing...I would have to resort to (gasp) applique! I found Pat Sloan's Mad Hatter's Tea Party Blocks and fell in love with the whimsical (i.e. easy to stitch) design, but even those were too big, so I used those patterns as a guide to draw my own teapot pattern. I'm quite pleased with how the block turned out (even if it is appliqued) and I think it will be a nice addition to my friend's quilt!

Fade To Black is my contribution to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative for the month of October. With Alzheimer's disease vivid memories slowly fade to black, just like the colors in this quilt. I'm sorry to say cancer runs in my family...it took my father, grandmother, grandfather, and my aunt. My sister, brother and myself have all had skin cancer removed so it is a very real concern in my family.

Woodloch Resort

As you know, I was traveling last week, so I don't have any new projects to talk about, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful resort where I was staying. One of the benefits of being the Outreach Chairperson for the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild is that I get to collect all of the beautiful quilts that are donated to Project Linus by our guild members. Before I deliver the quilts to our local Project Linus Coordinator, it's my job to check the quilts over for any stray pins or loose threads and attach a Project Linus label to each quilt. It's one thing to make a quilt to donate, but what a pleasure it is to get a chance to look over each donated quilt and see the tender loving care that has been stitched into each one!

The Detour Around The Yellow Brick Road quilt is finished and ready for delivery! I'm quite excited that I get to deliver this quilt in person as I made it for a childhood friend who I haven't seen in over 15 years! We're going to be spending a few wonderful days at a resort in the Pocono's together, just us girls, giggling and laughing the days and nights away just like we did back in the 6th grade! It's going to be so much fun!

Fleece Blanket Time

It's been awhile since I have made a fleece blanket for Project Linus, but the last few evenings have been chilly enough that I wanted a warm project to work on. Not only does a fleece blanket keep you warm while you are working on it, but it also warms your heart once it has been passed on to a child in need.

Christmas is less than three months away, so you know what that means...it's that time of year when we are all crafting furiously, but we don't dare share too much about our projects for fear of spoiling the surprise. Showing bits and pieces of projects without explanation makes pretty uninteresting blog posts, but I'm hoping that keeping a few secrets will make the holiday a little more special for a few people on my Christmas list.

I can't remember how many times over the years I had teachers ask me if I read all of the directions before beginning an assignment. Apparently not much has changed since my school days. I started a quilt using the Yellow Brick Road pattern and somewhere along the way I missed the part in the instructions that said, "Leftover strips will be used later". Translated that means, "Don't sub-cut all of the strips just yet", but I didn't figure that out until after I (yep, you guessed it) cut all of the strip sets. Thankfully, I was able to design enough blocks from the pieces that I had leftover to finish the quilt. No, it's not really a Yellow Brick Road quilt now, but I think my Detour Around The Yellow Brick Road is just as nice!
And for those who are wondering if I have learned my lesson about reading directions...probably not.

Flowers Inside And Out

Last week a few of my quilty friends and I traveled to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY to see a display of quilted wall hangings made by Alice Hunt and to tour the gardens at the Cornell Plantation. There were beautiful flowers everywhere...inside and out! If you are anywhere near Ithaca before the end of October, I highly recommend that you take the time to visit the Nevin Welcome Center and see "A Tribute to Flora", you won't be disappointed!

Texture Quilts

The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild begins it's new year at the September meeting with a whole new slate of officers. For the next two years I'll will be the Outreach Chairperson and will be heading up all of the guild's charity projects. I'm excited about this new position and I have several new ideas for how our guild can help people in our community through quilting.
Our first project will be making Texture Quilts. Not only are these quilts needed by our local nursing homes for patients with dementia or those who are vision impaired, but they will be great stash busters for guild members! Any fabric with texture or bold patterns can be used in these quilts. Corduroy, fleece, terrycloth, sateen, seersucker, brocade, lace, flannel, chenille...as long as it can be washed and dried it can be used in these quilts! I made this Texture Quilt as a sample and I was surprised to find that I had so many fabrics that aren't found in quilt shops in my stash! I think with the help of the guild that we will come up with some very interesting quilts for our local nursing homes!

Tumbling Blocks is my Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt for September. I don't often say this about my work, but I am proud of this little quilt! I've been trying to figure out what it is about this quilt that makes it so special to me and I think it's the fact that it is so different from the quilts that I usually make. I don't think I will ever consider myself an art quilter, but making quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative has given me an opportunity to let my inner artist loose and expand my quilting horizons. The small scale of the Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts is the perfect venue for trying a new style or technique too! Chinese Block, Broken Dishes Or ???

About a year ago my cousin, Cheryl, was looking for some information about the quilt pattern in this photo. We did a little research together and found that it was similar to a Chinese Block or Broken Dishes, but there was a slight variation in the center from the examples that we found. Cheryl played around with drafting templates for the pattern and even made a few blocks, but the project had been set aside until last week when she saw a post on Barbara Brackman's blog entitled Block Mystery. The post was devoted to the mysterious Chinese Block and the lack of information available about this beautiful quilt block. Barbara's post did answer a few of our questions and she noted that there are several variations of the block, but we have yet to find a block like the one that Cheryl's great grandmother made. Did she draft this variation herself? It's possible. Needless to say, this new information has renewed our interest in her Great Grandma Ely's quilt! I used the block pattern that Barbara provided in her post as a starting point and then drafted a center to match Great Grandma Ely's quilt...I think it's a pretty good match and the best part is that there are no templates involved! I don't think it will be long before Cheryl and I both have our own reproductions of her great grandmother's quilt.

September 2011 Flood

There is no question that we have had a lot of rain here in Pennsylvania over the past couple of days! There is record flooding going on all around us, but thankfully any flooding in our immediate area hasn't been anything worse than some wet basements and a few creeks that overflowed their banks. Our basement has a few inches of water in it, but that is something that we expect when it rains hard for any length of time, so we don't keep anything in the basement that might be damaged by water. Wellsboro was fortunate compared to many of our neighbors. Sayre, Athens, Muncy, Hughesville, Montoursville and so many other nearby towns all have large areas that are now completely underwater. The devastation is heartbreaking!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Blondies

1/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips

In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, melted butter, peanut butter, egg and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt just until blended. Spread batter into a greased 9 x 9 pan and top with chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes.

Straight Forward

I just have a lot of straight forward straight line sewing to report this week with a couple of very uninteresting photos to accompany the story. First on the list were new curtain panels and ties that my daughter-in-law had asked me to make for their bedroom. After the curtains were finished, I moved on to making flat sheets for the lil' cowboy's new "big boy" bed. He has lots of fitted sheets, but needed a few extra top sheets, so I cut down a large flat sheet to make two toddler bed size sheets. Like I said, all very straight forward projects with lots of straight line sewing, but I know these curtains and sheets will make some of my favorite people very happy.

I had hoped to have Miss One's shrug all finished before the first day of school, but I still have a lot of ribbing left to do and with school starting on Wednesday, it's just not enough time for me to get it done. I guess I thought that I could knit a size 10 just as quickly as I did the size 4. (Why in the world would I think such a thing?) Thankfully the weatherman is calling for temperatures in the 80's this week, so it's going to be too warm to wear a sweater anyway. I'm not sure what the forecast is for next week, but I will surely have it finished before the first frosty morning!

New Smyrna Sunset

New Smyrna Sunset is my Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt for the month of August. I made it to commemorate the the sunsets that my mother-in-law enjoyed from her winter home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She has dozens of sunset photographs in her albums, but sadly Alzheimer's has taken away all of her memories of the sunsets and her beautiful beach home. It's my hope that this quilt will bring us one step closer to a cure because beautiful memories should never be forgotten!

I Feel The Earth Move

It's no secret that I don't enjoy Pennsylvania winters and people often tell me that I should move to southern California where it is always sunny and 70 degrees. Now I know why I don't live in California...earthquakes are scarier than cold weather and snow storms! All is well here despite the earthquake and there isn't any damage...unless you count the grip marks that I left in the kitchen counter!

Teeny Tiny!

No, these teeny tiny blocks aren't part of my Dear Jane quilt, but they are just about the same size as a Dear Jane block! These blocks are my contribution to the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild's 2012 raffle quilt. The pattern is Passing Fancy from Kim Diehl's book Simple Traditions. I don't have any doubt that this will be an amazing quilt once it's finished, but I can honestly say that I'm glad that I don't have to make all 260 of these itty bitty blocks by myself!

Triangle Head Scarves

Remember the triangle head scarves of the 60's? Apparently what was old is new again, because Miss One asked me the other day if I thought I could make one for her. It only took one batik fat quarter and about 15 minutes of time to make "the coolest triangle head scarf ever"! Even Ivy, the American Girl doll, got a scarf to match her outfit. I wonder if matching bell bottoms will be next on the request list?

Kindle Sleeve

Back in April I made a Kindle cover for my daughter-in-law. The cover turned out really cute, but it was not without its flaws. Not only was there a typo on the front cover, but it was also just a little too big. My daughter-in-law didn't really think that either would be a problem, until last week when her Kindle slipped out of the cover and went crashing to the pavement! Thankfully the Kindle didn't suffer any major damage, but it scared her enough to ask for a case that offered a little more protection. My oldest granddaughter, Miss One, and I put our heads together and came up with a Kindle sleeve based on this Snap Tape Bag tutorial. Miss One did the lettering on the front and back with fabric markers and I did the stitching. I think we came up with a pretty cute sleeve that should keep the Kindle safe when it's not in use!

Retail Therapy

My home therapy kit arrived from I Have a Notion and it's just what the doctor ordered...a Go!Baby fabric cutter, cutting mats, 3 1/2" tumbler die and a chisel die! No doubt that this new set up will provide me with hours and hours of quilt therapy while taming my scrap pile at the same time. I'm starting to feel better already and I haven't even started cutting yet!

Therapy Continues

Lately it has felt like our family was being sucked into a black hole by Alzheimer's disease, but the past few days have been a little brighter. My mother-in-law spent two weeks at the hospital in a geriatric behavioral health unit and did very well with the medication adjustments and specialized program that they offered. During that time it became evident to us that my mother-in-law needed to be in a facility that had a better understanding of Alzheimer's disease than the nursing home where she has been staying. Fortunately, we found a nursing home with a dedicated staff and program geared especially for Alzheimer's patients a little over an hour from our home. The nurses assure us that she is adjusting to the move better than we are! It's difficult getting used to the idea that we aren't able visit as often, but it's also reassuring to know that she is safe and happy in her new home. I know we will eventually adjust to the new routine, but in the mean time I guess I will just have to continue with my therapy and make a few more Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts.

I finished the first shrug for the youngest of my four granddaughters! One down and just one more to go! One more to go? I bet you're thinking that my math is a bit off, aren't you? No, I can count just fine! The lil' cowboy's mommy (and knitter extraordinaire) has graciously offered to help me with this project! Hop over to Yarn and Tonka Trucks and have a look at the shrug she just finished for Miss Two!

For this shrug I used the Little Girl's Shrug pattern by Knitting Pure & Simple with Marble DK Yarn. It's so soft and the best part is that it's 100% acrylic and machine washable, so if it ends up in the wash it won't shrink!
