More 9-Patch Blocks

I can't say that there has been much happening in my sewing room lately.  Between doing yard work and other outside activities there just doesn't seem to be the time to start new projects.  I suppose that's the one good thing about winter...lots of time to quilt!  Even with the wonderful weather, I'm still managing to find a few minutes here and there to make some more tiny 9-patch blocks though!

Remembering our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day.   My heartfelt thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect us and ensure our freedoms.

Borderless!

Last Friday I asked if this little quilt needed borders or not and it was almost a 50-50 split between adding borders or going borderless.  In the end I decided to go with my gut, which was telling me that this quilt didn't really need borders.  I quilted it with a tiny meander and added a solid white binding which is just enough to stop the action and frame the quilt.  I love how it turned out and what's even better is that I used all most of my 30's reproduction fabric scraps! (Just how small is too small of a fabric scrap to keep or use?)

Just Right!

How cute is this little cell phone wallet?!  I love how it turned out.  It's just the right size to hold cards, cash, and a phone.  Perfect for those who like to travel light or it could even be paired it with a larger tote bag! (Which kind of makes me wish I had bought more than just a fat quarter of the blue floral print!)

Just For Fun

Every once in awhile it's fun to work on a project just because, for no good reason other than to just make something for the joy of it!  I picked up this Cell Phone Wallet pattern on my last shopping trip because the shop samples were just too cute...I couldn't resist!  The shop owner assured me that it was a fast and fun project...hopefully she was right!

The Question Is...

My 30's reproduction scraps are now a quilt top!  It is  small, just 31x36, but that's a nice size to use in a carseat or stroller, so the small size really isn't an issue.  My question is, without taking size into consideration, does it need a border or is it done?

Merry Mother's Day?

It's an odd time of year for me to be working with holiday fabrics.  I usually save winter fabrics for projects between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but shortly after Christmas my mom mentioned that she needed a new holiday table runner, so rather than trying to stitch one during the Christmas rush, I thought I would make one for her for Mother's Day!  This way she will have it in plenty of time to enjoy it when next Christmas rolls around!

Quilting With Office Products

I do love my Gracie quilt frame, but I still like to use my domestic machine and a walking foot for straight-line quilting on smaller projects.  I was recently quilting a narrow grid and was having a hard time stuffing and shifting the quit through the machine and keeping my stitching straight, so I rolled the quilt and pinned the excess into place with a couple of straight pins.  Ouch!  Not a good idea.  Then I remembered the big binder clips that I had in my desk...they held the quilt in place perfectly and worked like a charm!

The Challenge Continues

The leftover half-square triangles and stack of 30's reproduction scraps have now been turned into pinwheels, 4-patches, and charm squares with just a few small bits leftover.  Stay tuned...

I Wonder?

A quilty friend is on a mission to use up all of her 30's reproduction fabrics and she recently asked for some fabric to help round out the colors in one last 30's reproduction quilt.  In the process of searching for the fabric I found a bag with some leftover HST's and some other scraps, so I thought I would try the same thing as my friend and see if I can get one more quilt from the 30's scrap bag without having to buy anymore fabric.  I wonder if I can do it?

Big And Small

I don't do well with bags that have a lot of pockets.  Seems that I spend more time looking for what I want by searching through pockets than if I just throw everything in my bag loose!  Some smaller things do need to be contained though, so I made this little zip bag to match my new tote.  It is just the right size to keep the smallest things together and right where I can find them!
